Deepwater Horizon — Trailer
The story behind 2010's infamous BP oil spill, known as the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history, which ended up killing 11 crewmen and injuring 17 others, forms the basis of the new disaster drama "Deepwater Horizon," starring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Kate Hudson and Dylan O'Brien.
Directed by "Lone Survivor" and "Friday Night Lights" helmer Peter Berg, the film is based on a 2011 New York Times article, which chronicled the events that led up to the massive drilling explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, which was located off Louisiana's coast in the Gulf of Mexico. The movie will be following the lives of the oil rig workers, who either miraculously survived or tragically lost their lives during that fateful event.
Co-starring Gina Rodriguez, Ethan Suplee, and Stella Allen, "Deepwater Horizon" will open in theaters September 30th.
Check out the film's debut trailer (above), which does a pretty effective job of explaining how an oil drill can explode at a moment's notice -- you'll never look at a coke can the same way again.
